Updates…I guess

At the end of April 2025, I underwent surgery to correct a hip labrum tear. I suffered the injury in August of 2024 while working in the chicken coop. Due to that, I have been unable to show any of my dogs for over a year.

I am 5 months post-op now and starting to see the light at the end of a very long tunnel. This recovery process and PT is grueling and only getting more intense as it goes on.

I’m sure that you can understand that I haven’t been very focused on dog breeding efforts or anything like that lately. The only show that I have attended so far this year was the First Colony Cluster, where Michael and I are members of the Virginia Kennel Club and we were there to help the club and make sure that the only AKC FSS Open Shows in Virginia went well. We doubled our entries from last year and I am so grateful to the local FSS community. I was scooting around Doswell in a wheelchair because my hip just couldn’t handle being on the hard floors for 12 hours each day.

Currently, I am just now starting going to handling classes again. I’m having to learn how to use my muscles to show again and the results have been humbling and hysterical at times. My amazing PT team has been working with me to get back to moving again and there have been times where my balance and muscle just cause me to launch sideways.

I’ve got another 5-6 weeks of PT and another 7 months or more before I’m fully recovered. This was my first orthopedic surgery since I was 9 months old and had corrective surgery on my right foot for clubfeet. I’m so grateful for my orthopedic surgeon who at no point wanted to make a career out of my legs and feet.

I’m still active primarily on Facebook and TikTok if you have any questions about the breed.
